Advent Taize services in conjunction with St Columba’s Church
We will be holding Advent Taize services along with St Columba’s Church. The Taize Community has helped maintain an ancient way of worship. More information about Taize can be found on their website taize.fr
Our Taize services involve singing Taize chants, a form of sung prayers which are quite repetitive. The repetition helps still our hearts and minds. There will also be spoken prayers, a short reflection and then a time of silent meditation. Many people are uncomfortable with silence, so we try to help people enter into this type of prayer with the teachings of the World Community for Christian Meditation. This organisation is helping to bring the healing power of meditation back to the church. There webpage can be found at https://wccm.org/meditation-centres
Many people have found that these services bring a sense of healing and peace that they have not experienced before. We talk in the church about the healing power of prayer. These services are where that healing can be found in the silence and stillness.
Taize Advent services will take place on Sunday evenings at 6.30 pm. The first one will be at Boghall on the 28th of November, then at St Columba’s on the 5th December, back at Boghall on the 12th December, and finally at St Columba’s on the 19th December. The theme for these services will be waiting. Waiting and preparing is what advent is about and like silence, it is not something that we are very good at. What joys can we find in the waiting?
